Annual Energy Review

The Annual Energy Review published by the Energy Information Administration
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/aer/overview.html

This website has every fact and statistic on energy in the US that you could ever imagine and probably a bunch you never could. I just looked at the Energy overview, and even that its packed with information on how much energy we use, how much we produce, how much we buy, what kinds (renewable, coal, gas), where it comes from and so much more! It also breaks down energy consumption by state, which is interesting.
However, it's important to note that these are raw statistics. Its not light reading. This is definitely a resource older students and teachers. However, it might have interesting curricular potential. Students can look at this data in math classes; they can use real world data in their exercises while simultaneously learning about sustainability.

Who:

This report is published annually by the Energy Information Administration, which is the government agency in charge of collecting and presenting energy data to the public. This is about as reliable as you get. (If you trust your government… but that’s a whole different ball of wax.)

What:

This is a government (.gov) site who's sole purpose is to present scientific data to the public.

Where:

They got these stats from scientists, industries, and government records.

When: This is the 2005 report, the 2006 hasn't come out yet. However, this report was posted on July 27, 2006
Why:

This site is better than other sites because it takes you directly to the source of the data. This is the source that all other sources will refer to in their bibliographies. This report is a comprehensive analysis of where we are in current energy consumption on a state and national level. This is a good starting place, because we can look at this data and pinpoint areas in which we need to improve our energy use policies.
